Mazak's NEXUS QTN-250 turning center joins spindle and motor in one integral unit and takes a 10 in chuck. That chuck is a through-hole design as standard equipment, passing bars of up to 3.0 in. The spindle carries a 26 kW (35 hp) rating, and its speed limit is 4000 rpm. Twelve tools ride a turret that indexes one position at a time in 0.2 seconds each. On rapid moves the X axis covers 1181 ipm and the Z axis 1299 ipm. A servo motor drives the electric tailstock, which is fully programmable under NC and needs no hand setting when workpiece length changes. Standard equipment also includes the Tool Eye, an arm that presets tools: when a tool tip touches it, the nose offset is registered and the tool measured automatically, and it keeps a running check on tool wear. A bar feeder was an optional extra.
