Okuma's archived brochure for the LB300 describes a CNC lathe in its Space Turn line, built on a slanted box bed. The main spindle runs from 45 to 4,500 rpm and is driven by a VAC motor rated 15 kW (20 hp) for 20 minutes and 11 kW (15 hp) continuous. A big-bore spindle option runs from 38 to 3,800 rpm. Swing over the bed is 530 mm and maximum turning diameter is 370 mm. X travel is 260 mm, and Z travel is 520 mm or 1,020 mm depending on the configuration. Rapid traverse is 20 m/min in X and 25 m/min in Z. The turret holds 12 tools and indexes in 0.1 second. The control is the OSP-U100L. Machine mass runs from 4,000 kg to 5,900 kg depending on the configuration.

• Control generation. The manufacturer specifies OSP-U100L for this model. Units we have tracked run 1999 to 2001; an early one may carry an older control or a retrofit.
• Spindle. The manufacturer gives a spindle speed of 45 ~ 4,500 [38 ~ 3,800]. Run the spindle to top speed and listen for bearing noise.
• Spindle load. The manufacturer gives VAC 15 / 11 (20 / 15) {20 min/cont} [22 / 15 (30 / 20) {20 min/cont}] of spindle power. Take a heavy cut and watch the load meter.
• Spindle nose. The manufacturer gives a spindle nose of JIS A2-6 [JIS A2-8]. Check that the chuck fitted to it runs true.
• Axes and way covers. The manufacturer gives X 260 (185 + 75) {10.24 (7.28 + 2.95)} and Z 520 (20.47) [C × 500] / 1,020 (40.16) [C × 1000] of travel. Run each axis end to end and check the way covers.
• Rapids and ballscrews. The manufacturer gives a rapid traverse of X: 20 (65.6) Z: 25 (82). Measure the backlash on each axis.
• Turret. The manufacturer gives the turret stations as L: 12. Index every station and time a full turn.
• Bed and ways. The manufacturer gives a max turning diameter of ø370 (ø14.57) and a distance between centers of 520 (20.47) [C × 500] / 1,020 (40.16) [C × 1000]. Check the ways for wear near the chuck.
• Rigging and floor. The manufacturer gives a machine weight of 4,000 (8,800) [T] / 4,200 (9,240) [C × 500] / 5,900 (12,980) [C × 1000] and a floor space of 2,200 × 1,720 (86.61 × 67.72) 3,310 × 1,895 (130.31 × 74.61). Confirm the rigging route and the floor will take that.

In a 2024 video, Okuma says its OSP control holds the machine manuals already loaded, so an operator can open them at the machine, and that other PDF files load onto it from a USB drive.
