For the VCN510C/50, Mazak took its Nexus VCN 510C vertical machining center and fitted a 50-taper spindle, the first time its Nexus vertical family had one; the machine came from Mazak's plant in Florence, KY. In standard form a fixed 1:2 gear reducer drives that spindle to 6000 rpm, with 30 Hp and 206 ft-lbs of torque. Choosing the optional 1:3 reducer trades top speed for twisting force: 4000 rpm and 310 ft-lbs, still at 30 hp. A 24-tool magazine feeds the changer, and tool exchanges take 2.0 seconds measured cut to cut. Axes move at up to 1417 ipm in rapid, with 0.5 G of acceleration. Over a 51 in. by 21 in. table, the X axis reaches 41 in. and the Y axis 20 in. Through-spindle coolant appears among the options.

Heavier metal removal from extra horsepower and torque was the aim of the 50-taper VCN510C/50 in Mazak's 2005 release, which kept a geared 4000 rpm spindle as an option for harder cuts still.
