An archived Haas product page headed VF-3B describes a vertical machining center of medium size, taking 40-taper tools, whose travels are 40 x 20 x 25 in, that is 1,016 by 508 by 635 mm, though its text speaks of the VF-3. The spindle is a cartridge design, driven through a two-speed gearbox in the head by the Dual-Drive vector motor, rated 20 hp, and it develops 250 ft-lb at only 450 rpm. For finishing aluminum the spindle takes under 5 seconds to reach 7,500 rpm. Haas notes that the machine is built from American-made cast-iron parts, calls it gear driven, and explains that changes prompted by customer feedback go straight into the machines being built. The page calls the mill moderate in size and sends readers to the VMC section for its features and options.
