Okuma's VTM-80YB is a 5-axis multitasking machine that combines a lathe with a machining center, part of the VTM-YB Series. Its cutting envelope is Ø800 mm by 1,135 mm in length. Y has a 710 mm stroke, X 1,120 mm, and Z equals the 1,135 mm cutting length. X and Y share a 24 m/min rapid; Z is set at 20 m/min. A geared head drives the spindle between 8 and 800 min⁻¹ on a 30/22 kW motor, and large diameter roller bearings hold the work spindle at two points. The magazine is for 36 tools, or 120 on option, and an automatic pallet changer is listed. According to Okuma, a part can be turned and then milled on vertical, horizontal and angled faces in one setup, with no need to reposition it in the chuck. Straight end mills can cut on their sides here in place of ball end mills cutting at a point, and Okuma names large valve bodies as an example part.
