Okuma Europe lists the VTM-65 in its VTM series alongside the VTM-100 and VTM-200. Okuma describes that series as a 3-axis vertical turning center that joins a vertical lathe and a machining center, with a 50 taper magazine so the series can both turn and mill. For the VTM-65 the maker gives a turning envelope of 650 mm in diameter and 635 mm in length. Its spindle reaches 1,250 min-1 on a motor listed at 30/22 kW. Its magazine has 36 tool positions as standard and 60 optionally. The VTM-65 row also names an APC, an automatic pallet changer. Across the VTM series, Okuma names box way construction with wide, angled slideways on every axis, a counterbalance on the vertical axis, and a headstock fixed to the base, which the maker says limits the effect of heat and vibration on the cut. A spindle orientation function appears among the standard accessories for the series.

Okuma's 2006 page points the VTM-65 at low-volume part runs, naming valve bodies and work with heavy milling, since its 36-tool, 50-taper magazine lets one machine handle the turning and the milling.
