What the Okuma MULTUS U3000 is
The Okuma MULTUS U3000 is a multi-tasking turn-mill center — a machine for doing turning and milling in one setup — a milling spindle on a B axis working with a main and usually a second spindle, so a part comes off complete. The manufacturer publishes a max turning diameter of ø650 (25.59). This one is specified with a Y axis and live tooling: off-center milling without a second setup; driven tools in the turret or milling spindle.

Selling a used Okuma MULTUS U3000
Okuma's June 2025 brochure builds the MULTUS U3000 in five layouts. 1ST is chuck work only, 1SC adds a tailstock, 1SW adds an opposing spindle, and 2SC and 2SW put a lower turret under those last two. All but 1ST come on a 1000 or a 1500 mm distance between centers, and 1ST is listed on the 1000 alone. Read the layout letters and the center distance off the plate and lead the description with them, because they decide what the machine can finish in one chucking.
Back in 2014, the okuma.com product page on this model named the THINC-OSP-P300 control and listed the Thermo-Friendly Concept and the Collision Avoidance System as standard, with Machining Navi as an option. The same page said the H1 head took CAPTO C6 tooling. Note the control model on the cabinet plate, whether Machining Navi shows among the installed options, and which holder taper the spindle actually takes.
The August 2020 brochure lists the OSP-P300SA, with a 15-inch touch display in the standard list and a 19-inch panel with an adjustable angle as an option. It also offers a Big-Bore main spindle for the U3000, running to 4,200 min-1 on an A2-8 nose, and its option table carries a bar feeder, a workpiece unloader and a gantry loader. Whatever a given machine carries from that list, record the maker and type, and say whether the owner is selling it with the lathe.
The current build, per the June 2025 brochure, puts the OSP-P500S on the machine with a 21.5-inch LCD operation panel, a portable pulse handle and the Collision Avoidance System as standard. Its upper H1 turret takes HSK-A63 tools from a 40-tool chain magazine, and its tool spindle tops out at 12,000 min-1 with a 25/19 kW motor. Where a unit differs from those lines, quote what the plate and the screen show rather than the brochure.
The U3000 product page Okuma runs today describes a traveling column that gives the B-axis head 9.84 inches of Y travel, a 240 degree B-axis range, and a full contouring C axis on the left spindle and on the optional right one. It also names the lower turret and the sub-spindle as options. A buyer who runs off-center work will ask about the Y travel early, so put that figure in writing.

What to check on an Okuma MULTUS U3000
The same list whichever side of the deal you are on.
- Standard or Big-Bore spindle. The standard ø120 mm main spindle runs to 5,000 min-1 on a JIS A2-6 nose, and the ø140 mm Big-Bore version runs to 4,200 min-1 on a JIS A2-8 nose. Read the nose size before the chuck comes off, since it decides which chucks a buyer can mount.
- Pockets in the magazine. On Okuma Europe's U3000 page the tool count reads 40, with 80, 120 or 189 in brackets as options. Count the pockets, count the holders going along with it, and mark any pocket that is empty.
- HSK holders with coolant pipes. The 2025 brochure gives the tool shank as HSK-A63 and notes that HSK holders with coolant supply pipes are required. Pull one holder to confirm the interface, and count how many piped holders come with the machine.
- Lower turret on 2SC and 2SW. On the two-turret builds the lower turret is a V12 holding 12 tools, and its milling spindle runs 45 to 6,000 min-1 where driven tools are fitted. Index it through all 12 stations and spin one driven tool if it has them.
- Tailstock or opposing spindle. Tailstock builds carry an NC tailstock with an MT No. 5 tapered bore for a revolving center, while the 2SW gets a ø100 mm opposing spindle that runs to 5,000 min-1. Run the W axis over its full travel and, on a two-spindle machine, hand a part across.
- Steadyrest or workrest on the lower turret. The August 2020 brochure shows a steadyrest that attaches to the lower turret to support long or single-side clamped work, and a workrest mounted on that turret to help with loading. If either came with the machine, list it by name and photograph it mounted on the turret it was set up for.
- Full B-axis swing. The current page gives the B axis a 240 degree swing and 0.001 degree steps on the H1 head. Swing it across its whole arc in both directions and listen for the clamp at each position.
