The DMG MORI NT-4300DCG/1500SZ is a multi-tasking turn-mill center — a machine for doing turning and milling in one setup — a milling spindle on a B axis working with a main and usually a second spindle, so a part comes off complete. The manufacturer publishes a max turning diameter of 660 mm (26 in.). This one is specified with a Y axis and bar work: off-center milling without a second setup; a bar feeder can run stock through the spindle.

Selling a used DMG MORI NT-4300DCG/1500SZ
Mori Seiki's 2006 sheet for the NT4300 DCG/1500SZ lists a headstock 1 and a headstock 2, a Capto C6 tool spindle on turret 1, and a turret 2 with 195 mm (7.7 in.) of X travel and 1,525 mm (60.0 in.) of Z travel. Turret 2 turns work up to 350 mm (13.7 in.) across, against 660 mm (25.9 in.) for the tool spindle, so give each tool carrier its own line in the description.
Set beside it, the /1500S sheet from the same capture carries both headstocks and every tool spindle figure, but it has no turret 2 rows at all. The turret 2 lines are the only thing separating the two sheets. Before the title says SZ, open the door, find turret 2 on the machine, and photograph it with the plate.
By 2009 Mori Seiki's NT series table gave the S and SZ builds 12 or 15 inch chucks on both spindle 1 and spindle 2. The tool magazine held 20 tools as standard, with 40, 100, 179 and 239 tool versions in the option brackets. Count the magazine pockets and record the chuck size on each spindle, because both can change from one SZ to the next.
That 2009 page also calls a Direct Drive Motor for full indexing of the tool spindle an option, and it puts turret 2's 6,000 min-1 rotary tool speed in brackets as an option too. Two machines carrying the same nameplate may therefore index the B axis differently and differ on whether turret 2 drives tools. Find both on the original option list or check them at the machine.
DMG MORI's current page for the NT 4300 DCG, written for today's build, gives a 12 inch standard chuck and two distances between centers, 1,000 mm and 1,500 mm. It names the Right Spindle and Turret 2 among the specifications offered, and credits the series with DCG (Driven at the Center of Gravity), DDM (Direct Drive Motor) and ORC (Octagonal Ram Construction).
The UK page for the present NT 4300 DCG lists a digital tailstock as standard, a B axis turned by a direct drive motor through ±120°, a 2-face contact Capto tool spindle, and MAPPS on Fanuc as the control. Those lines describe a new machine. For an older SZ, write down the control and its MAPPS version and say whether a tailstock is fitted, instead of borrowing the current list.

What to check on a DMG MORI NT-4300DCG/1500SZ

- Tool spindle strokes on the 1500 builds. Mori Seiki's 2009 table gives the tool spindle on the 1500 builds 750 mm (29.5 in.) of X, ±210 mm of Y and 1,550 mm plus 100 mm of Z for the ATC. That Z figure differs from the 2006 sheet's, so measure the Z stroke on this machine and quote what you measured. Run all three axes over their full strokes and note any spot where the axis load climbs.
- Turret 2 axes and driven stations. Jog turret 2 over its 195 mm X and 1,525 mm Z strokes and index it station by station. The 2006 sheet rates its rotary tools at 6,000 min-1, so run one driven holder if the turret has them.
- Headstock 1 and headstock 2. Both headstocks are rated 3,000 min-1. Bring each one to that speed in turn and list the chuck and jaw sets that belong to each.
- Tool changes at the ATC position. The tool spindle's Z travel is 1,635 mm plus 100 mm for the ATC. Send it to the change position and call a run of tools from the magazine, then count the Capto C6 holders that go with the machine.
- Tool spindle at 12,000 min-1. Mori Seiki rates the turret 1 tool spindle at 12,000 min-1. Bring it up in steps, let it run at full speed for several minutes, listen at the head, and read the spindle run hours off the control.
- Turning length of the 1500SZ. Mori Seiki's 2006 lineup gives the 1500SZ a turning length of 1,498 mm (59.0 in.), shorter than the 1,518 mm of the 1500 and 1500Z. Use the 1500SZ figure in the listing.
