Mazak's VARIAXIS j-600/5X is the simultaneous five-axis build of its j series, a family of machining centers that cut several faces of a part. The Japanese page explains that control of all five axes at once was brought to that family for three-dimensional curved surfaces. A tilting B axis swings through 210 degrees, and the C axis turns the full 360 degrees. The X stroke is 850 mm and the Y stroke 550 mm, while Z moves 510 mm. Work as large as 730 mm across and 450 mm high can be loaded. A No. 40 shank spindle reaches 12000 min-1, driven by an 11 kW / 15.0 HP motor whose figure holds over a 30 minute period. Eighteen pockets form the standard magazine, and the photo shows a 30 tool magazine marked as an option. MAZA-CHECK, a function that finds where the B and C rotation centers sit, comes fitted; the page calls it a need for five-axis machining.
