Mazak offered the SMART 250, a 2-axis CNC lathe, in two bed lengths, labeled 500U and 1000U. Its integrated spindle and motor carry a 10 in chuck, reach 4000 rpm and are rated 35.0 hp / 26 kw on a 30 minute basis. Over the bed the machine swings 26.00 in, and it cuts diameters up to 15.000 in. Bar stock up to 3.0 in fits through. The bed choice sets machining length at 19.858 in or 40.358 in and Z stroke at 22.00 in or 43.38 in, while the X stroke stays 8.25 in on both. A single upper turret carries 12 tools. Programs go into the Smart control in either EIA/ISO code or Mazatrol conversational form. The page also names a CNC programmable tailstock, through-hole chucks and an automatic tool eye, and it says loading by bar feeder or gantry robot can be integrated for unmanned work.
