In the Mazak QTS 200M, a SMART series CNC turning center, the M designation brings milling, drilling and tapping tools to a lathe that also turns. An 8 in chuck mounts to a spindle built as one unit with its motor, rated 25.0 hp / 19 kw for 30 minutes and capped at 5000 rpm. The 12-tool upper turret drives its rotating tools to 4500 rpm under a 10 minute rating of 7.5 hp / 6 kw. Two bed lengths appear, 500U and 1000U. On both, swing reaches 26.00 in, turned diameters stop at 14.250 in, bar up to 2.6 in passes through, and the X axis moves 8.88 in. The 500U machines 21.054 in of length over a Z stroke of 23.75 in; the 1000U stretches those to 41.785 in and 44.25 in. The SMART CNC takes Mazatrol conversational programming as well as EIA/ISO codes. Its feature list also names an automatic tool eye, chucks with a through hole and a tailstock the CNC can position.
