Mazak's CYBERTECH TURN 5500M is a multi-tasking CNC turning center whose 14.8" spindle bore comes standard, and milling comes from a driven rotary spindle on the upper turret. Whichever bed is fitted, 2000U, 3000U or 4000U, swing is 36.02 in and machined parts reach 31.890 in in diameter, while machining length is 80.000 in, 120.000 in or 159.130 in according to bed. The spindle's ceiling is 500 rpm, and the main motor gives 60.0 hp / 45 kw for a 30 minute period. Twelve positions on the drum turret accept turning tools, rotary tools or both; the rotary tools reach 3000 rpm from 15.0 hp / 11 kw. X travel stays at 21.26 in on every bed. Drilling, tapping, milling, turning and boring to a depth of 40" happen in one setup, with an automatic changer for deep-hole boring. Its tailstock is servo-driven and programmable, threading is a built-in routine, and the control takes MAZATROL conversational programs, G code, or both. A program for re-threading pipe was optional.
