Makino's U3 is a wire EDM, and its page describes the Hyper i control, which Makino uses on both its wire and sinker EDM machines. The control is run by touch, with pinch, swipe and drag gestures on a 24 inch class HD screen, follows a three step program, setup and run flow, and comes with a full function handbox, onboard manuals, training videos and E Tech Doctor help. The four sided table measures 630 x 450 mm inside a 790 x 611 mm tank. Travels are 370 mm in X, 270 mm in Y and 220 mm in Z, with 50 mm either way on U and V, and a workpiece may measure up to 770 x 590 x 220 mm and weigh 600 kg. The machine runs wire of 0.100, 0.150, 0.200, 0.250 and 0.300 mm, its library of cutting settings is sorted by workpiece material, wire type and wire size, and Makino says each setting is tuned for low wire consumption.

What the Makino U3 is used for

Makino builds the U3 wire EDM on a stationary work table, which it says repeats regardless of how big or heavy the workpiece is (up to 600 kg), and tunes every cutting setting, sealed and poor-flush cuts included, for low wire use, since wire is among the largest running expenses of a wire EDM.
