Hermle's German pages for the C 600 U treat it as the smaller of a pair, sharing one data sheet with the C 800 U. The C 600 U travels 600 mm in X, 450 mm in Y and 450 mm in Z, where the bigger machine moves 800, 600 and 500 mm. Its frame is a modified gantry that avoids the weak points of the usual gantry layout, and all three linear axes are carried in the tool, so the moving mass stays the same whatever the part weighs. The Y slide rides as a crossbeam on three carriages over three offset guides, and the beam rests on three points with a central drive. Digital AC servo motors turn preloaded ball screws, and the spindle collects its tools straight from the magazine. One table variant on these pages is an NC swivel axis for work on three sides of a part, which carries a 600 x 370 mm clamping plate through plus or minus 110 degrees.
