On the UMC-500, Haas Automation pairs a 40-taper vertical spindle with a platter that tilts and rotates the work, for five axes in all; the maker presents it for 3+2 work and for simultaneous 5-axis cutting of smaller parts. Strokes come to 610 mm in X and 406 mm apiece in Y and Z. B tilts from 120° one way to 35° the other, C rotates 360°, both at 50 °/sec, and the largest part swing is 457 mm. Its 400 mm platter accepts 226.8 kg, or 90.7 kg with the optional pallet pool, on five T-slots. Drive to the spindle is inline and direct, lubricated by air and oil injection; it reaches 8100 rpm, 22.4 kW and 122.0 Nm at 2000 rpm, and CT40, BT40 and HSK-A63 tapers are listed. Thirty tools plus one fit the side-mount changer, at 3.60 s chip to chip. All three linear axes rapid at 22.9 m/min. Standard equipment covers rotary scales, a grid fixture plate, wireless probing and a 208 L coolant tank.
