GROB classes the G550a as a universal machining center for 5-axis work, combining three linear axes with two rotary ones. X travel is 800 mm, Y travel 950 mm and Z travel 1,020 mm; maximum axis speeds are 60, 42 and 60 m/min in the same order. The A-axis swivels through 230 degrees and the B-axis through 360. The table diameter is 770 mm, and table load is 700 kg without a pallet or 600 kg with one. A 900 mm interference diameter applies. At 12,000 rpm, the chip-to-chip time is 4.8 s. Machine weight is up to 21,500 kg, or 25,200 kg with the pallet changer. Controls come from SIEMENS or HEIDENHAIN. The motorized spindle versions listed use HSK-A63 or HSK-A100 tooling.
