In EMAG's modular VL series, the VL 4 is a vertical turning center for chucked work as large as 8 in in diameter and 8 in in length, held in a chuck of up to 10 in, with an 11 in swing. Its main spindle, carried on a compound slide at the front, moves in X and Z and collects raw parts from the integrated store, then returns them finished, without a separate loader. X covers 30 in and Z 16.5 in. At 40 % and 100 % duty the spindle is rated 33.5 and 24 hp, with 206.5 and 149 ft-lb of torque, and its speed limit is 4,500 rpm. A 12-post turret, which also takes driven tools, does the cutting. Two items on the page are options: a Y axis in the turret, with ± 1 in of travel, and a measuring station outside the cutting zone, next to the loading point, where parts are gauged as they go in and out. The machine base is MINERALIT polymer concrete.

EMAG writes that the VL 4 handles soft and hard machining of chucked parts up to 200 mm across in series production, and names the covers of 155 mm artillery shells among the parts it turns.

A 260 mm chuck. Jaw sets, soft jaws and collet chucks for this size are commodity items, but the chuck itself, and any spare jaws, travel with the machine and are counted in an offer.
