PUMA VTS1620 sits in the Doosan Machine Tools line of ram type vertical turning centers, and its 63 inch table reaches 250 r/min at most. A turned part may be 2000 mm wide, 1556 mm tall and 10000 kg in weight. A four jaw manual chuck came standard; a 63 inch combination chuck was optional. The table motor gives 45 kW in 30 minute duty and 37.5 kW continuously through a built in two step gearbox. The table develops 19875 N·m, and an optional 60 kW (10 minute) drive lifts that to 24380 N·m. A 308 by 250 mm ram carries tools 960 mm along Z, while X runs from 127 mm left of table center to 1600 mm right of it, both at 12 m/min. The crossrail locks at four steps over a 770 mm W range. An 18 tool magazine, 24 as an option, accepts static tools of 450 mm length and 50 kg apiece. Weight for the machine is 30000 kg.

What the Doosan VTS1620 is used for

Doosan's PUMA VTS brochure aims the ram-type series at large workpieces and heavy cutting, with box guideways on all linear axes and a large cross taper roller bearing in the spindle; the VTS1620 is the bigger of its two sizes, with a 2,000 mm turning diameter and 1,556 mm turning height against 1,350 mm and 814 mm on the VTS1214, and unlike the VTS1620M it has no C axis.
