The VF-5SS is one of the Super-Speed machines in Haas's VF Series of vertical machining centers, and Haas notes that it has more Y travel than the VF-4SS. Strokes are 50.00 in in X, 26.00 in in Y and 25.00 in in Z, and the spindle nose sits 4.2 in to 29.2 in above a table of 54.0 x 24.0 in with seven T-slots and a 1750 lb limit for an even load. Its inline direct-drive spindle is liquid cooled, reaches 12000 rpm and is rated 30.0 hp, with 90.0 ft-lbf at 2000 rpm; the taper row lists CT40, BT40 and HSK-A63. Rapids are 1200 ipm on all three axes and cutting feed tops out at 833 ipm. The standard side-mount changer stores 30+1 tools up to 16.00 in long and 12.0 lb, swapping tool to tool in 1.80 s and chip to chip in 2.40 s. A 95 gal coolant tank is standard equipment.

What the Haas VF-5SS is used for

With the VF-5SS, Haas puts its Super-Speed build for large part counts, an inline direct-drive spindle turning 12,000 rpm with fast tool changes and high rapids, on a medium frame whose 26 in Y stroke tops the VF-4SS's 20 in, and names the VF-5/50 as the same-size model with a larger taper.
