The Haas VF-6/40 is a three-axis vertical machining center with a 40-taper spindle, and Haas names it the first of the large-frame 40-taper machines in its VF Series. It travels 64.00 in in X, 32.00 in in Y and 30.00 in in Z, with 4.0 in to 34.0 in between spindle nose and table. Its 64.0 in by 28.0 in table has five T-slots and a 4000 lb rating for an evenly spread load. The inline direct-drive spindle turns up to 8100 rpm, is rated 30.0 hp, and delivers 90.0 ft-lbf at 2000 rpm, or 250 ft-lbf at 450 rpm when the optional gearbox is fitted. Listed spindle tapers are CT40, BT40 and HSK-A63. Tools load into a 30+1 side-mount changer that takes up to 12.0 lb per tool and averages 2.80 s tool to tool. Each axis rapids at 600 ipm; the cutting feed limit is 500 ipm. A chip auger, a programmable coolant nozzle, a remote jog handle and a 95 gal coolant tank come standard.
