What the maker publishes about the current Okuma V40R

Okuma's V40R is a vertical turning lathe in its 1SP-V Series, a line that also lists the V100R, V760EX and V920EX. Okuma describes it as a machine for turning thin and odd-shaped workpieces. Maximum cutting diameter is Ø400 mm, maximum cutting length is 450 mm, and the maximum swing is Ø500 mm. The spindle covers 25 to 2,500 min⁻¹, and spindle power is listed as 22/18.5 kW, or 30/25 hp. Both the X and Z axes traverse rapidly at 24 m/min. Its base and column are box type, the slides run on box ways, and the headstock has a flange construction that Okuma says reduces thermal deformation and vibration. Chips can be discharged to the side or to the rear, and a chip conveyor is optional. The operator has a panel on the front skirt as well as a swiveling pendant panel, and Okuma counts access to the chuck among its ergonomic points. The specifications are given for the OSP-P500 configuration.

What the Okuma V40R is used for

Okuma's 2006 page fits the V40R into tight floor plans: a two-axis vertical lathe whose tall Z column uses the space overhead and sends cutting heat up away from the part, while chips fall clear past a slanted headstock casting.
