What the Mazak VTC-200B is

The Mazak VTC-200B is a CNC vertical machining center — a machine for milling, drilling and tapping on a fixed table with a vertical spindle — the general-purpose workhorse of most shops. The manufacturer publishes a x-axis travel of 44.09″.

What it is built to do

From the figures the manufacturer publishes, a Mazak VTC-200B suits:

  • #40 tooling at up to 10,000 RPM

Listings spell this machine several ways. We use VTC-200B because trailing hyphen; VTC-200B is how Mazak and most listings spell it.

Mazak VTC-200B specifications

Dealer-sourced — not manufacturer published. We could not find a manufacturer specification for this machine, live or archived, so the figures below come from independent dealer listings that agree with one another. They are useful, and they are not the manufacturer’s word. Treat them as indicative rather than definitive.

What fits a Mazak VTC-200B

Each of these follows from a published specification above, which is named beside it.

40-taper toolholders

This is a 40-taper spindle — the 7:24 steep taper that CAT-40, BT-40 and DIN 69871 (SK-40) holders all share. They share the taper and nothing else that matters: the retention knob and the flange form differ between those standards, so holders do not swap between them without changing pull studs. Knowing which standard a machine was tooled for is worth doing before the holders are packed.

What to check on a Mazak VTC-200B

The same list whichever side of the deal you are on.

  • Control generation. The manufacturer specifies Mazatrol Fusion 640M for this model. The control is often the single biggest swing on two otherwise identical machines, because it decides which buyers can use it at all.
  • Spindle hours and condition. Most controls show run hours on a maintenance or diagnostics screen. It is the first number anyone asks for, so find it before the conversation rather than during it.
  • Tooling and accessories. Holders, chucks, steady rests, probing and automation attachments travel with the machine, and they are worth real money separately from it.
  • Way covers and the chip auger. Cheap to look at, expensive to ignore — damaged covers are how a way surface gets ruined.
  • The tool changer. Count a full carousel change and watch for hesitation.
  • A fourth axis or trunnion, if fitted. It is a separate asset and it is counted separately.
  • Power and rigging access. How the machine comes out of the building is a real cost, and it is one MTE absorbs, so an accessible machine is worth more to us.
