A Mazak entry-level SMART control runs the VERTICAL CENTER SMART 430A, a vertical machining center, and it reads programs written in Mazatrol conversational language or as EIA code. Its 40 taper spindle, spun to 12000 rpm, runs on ceramic bearings packed with grease, which the maker says cut heat and maintenance. With a 900 mm x 430 mm table, the machine moves 560 mm along X, 430 mm along Y and 510 mm along Z. Tools wait in a 30 position magazine, and a switch mounted on the spindle clamps or unclamps a tool. Roller guides of Mazak's Mx type support each axis, and the operator's control panel pivots. Articulated robots can be linked to it for automation.
