For the VARIAXIS 500-5X II, Mazak described vertical machining of several faces of a part, with its five axes moving together under simultaneous control. A pallet of 500 mm diameter carries the work, and on the standard machine a part can be 700 mm wide and 450 mm tall. X moves through 510 mm, Y through 910 mm and Z through 510 mm. Tilting about A goes from minus 120° up to plus 30°, while C has a range of ±360°, each of them a controlled axis. SK40 holders seat the tooling in a spindle whose speed goes to 18,000 rpm. Thirty pockets form the standard tool store, and stores for 40, 60, 80, 120 or 160 tools are optional.
