Mazak mounts a 15", 18" or 21" chuck on its QTN 450 MY, a multi-tasking turning center whose main spindle has an integrated 50 hp motor and a 2,000 rpm ceiling. That spindle also acts as a C axis, indexing in 0.0001° steps and working as a full CNC axis for milling. A 12-position drum turret carries the 10 hp rotary tool spindle, limited to 4,000 rpm, for milling, drilling and tapping. Strokes measure 13.39" in X, 8" in Y and 125" in Z. A dedicated AC servomotor turning a ball screw moves the NC servo tailstock on the W axis; it runs fully under program and can drill on the centerline of a shaft. The Tool Eye presets tools automatically and can watch tool wear at set intervals. The MAZATROL MATRIX NEXUS control has a QWERTY keyboard, a USB port and a 12" color LCD.
