What the maker publishes about the current Makino T1
Makino's T1 is a five-axis horizontal machining center that the maker places below its larger T2 and T4, sharing much of their TI ADVANTIGE features. The pallet is 1,000 mm, and strokes are 1,500 mm in X, 1,300 mm in Y and 2,000 mm in Z. The A axis tilts through 155°, from -110° to +45°, and the B axis turns 360°; no C axis is listed. With the deep chest column, five-sided machining covers parts as large as 1,500 mm in diameter. The spindle reaches 12,000 rpm, with duty-rated torque of 1,000 Nm up to 1,000 rpm and 76 hp continuous through 12,000. Rapid traverse and cutting feedrate are both 25,000 mm/min. Workpieces up to ø1,500 mm x 1,500 mm and 3,000 kg fit, and 5,000 kg is an option. The magazine holds 60 tools, with 96 or 137 optional, and takes tools up to 300 mm across and 30kg. Box-way castings, active damping and through-spindle coolant at 7 Mpa and 100 L/min are part of the design.

What fits a Makino T1
Each of these follows from a published specification above, which is named beside it.
Pallets and fixturing
Fixtures, tombstones and spare pallets are cut for a pallet of this size and do not transfer to another machine. On a horizontal they are a large share of what is being sold, so count them before quoting.

What to check on a Makino T1
- Spindle. The manufacturer gives a spindle speed of 12,000. Run the spindle to top speed and listen for bearing noise.
- Spindle load. The manufacturer gives 76 hp (continuous, out through 12,000 rpm) of spindle power and 1,000 Nm (duty-rated, from spindle start to 1,000 rpm) of spindle torque. Take a heavy cut and watch the load meter.
- Axes and way covers. The manufacturer gives X 1,500 mm, Y 1,300 mm and Z 2,000 mm of travel. Run each axis end to end and check the way covers.
- Rapids and ballscrews. The manufacturer gives a rapid traverse of 25,000 mm/min. Measure the backlash on each axis.
- Tool changer. The manufacturer gives the tool capacity as 60 (96, 137 opt) (96 and 137 are options). Cycle every pocket and watch for a hesitation.
- Pallet changer. The manufacturer gives a pallet size of 1,000 mm. Run a full pallet change, and count the pallets and fixtures that come with the machine.
- Table. The manufacturer gives a table load of 3,000 kg (5,000 kg option) (5,000 kg is an option). Check the table and its T-slots for damage.
- Rotary axes. The manufacturer gives 5-axis axes, A-Axis 155° (-110° ~+45°) and B-Axis 360°. Run each rotary axis through its range.
When the Makino T1 was built
Makino's T1 page, which says Makino has developed the T1, was archived on January 7, 2015, so the T1 was in production by 2015; the release introducing the T1 gives no date.
