WIA Machine America announced the L500LMA Series on 11 July 2014 as a turning center for heavy cutting. Its 21 inch standard chuck puts it above the L400 Series, standard chuck 15 inches, and below the L600 Series at 24 inches, and the standard control is the Fanuc 32i-B. The main spindle sits on angular bearings in front and double row roller bearings behind, tops out at 1,500 rpm and develops 2,990 ft-lbs of torque, while an oil chiller holds the spindle structure near ambient temperature to limit thermal growth. The slides ride on box guideways, and on this series the X axis guideway is 21% wider. X travels 400 mm and Z 2,210 mm, with rapids of 20 and 18 m/min. The built-in tailstock has a 132 mm quill with an MT #5 taper. The release names three variants: a Larger Spindle Unit (C), an Extra Long Bed (XL) and a Y axis version (Y).
