What the maker published about the Haas SL-40L
Haas's SL-40L Long Bed stretches the SL-40 turning center to 80" (2032 mm) of cutting length, a figure Haas called nearly twice the standard SL-40's. Diameters up to 25.5" (648 mm) can be cut. Work is gripped by a 15" (381 mm) chuck, the spindle nose is A2-8, and bar to 4.0" (102 mm) fits through. Drive comes from a vector system rated 40 hp (30 kW) at peak, working through a high-torque gearbox. For heavy cuts the pair yields 1400 ft-lb (1898 Nm) at the spindle, and for finishing passes the speed climbs to 2400 rpm. Haas paired this with wye-delta switching on the fly, which gives a wide constant-horsepower band. On the control side Haas listed tool management, single-button features, a USB port and a 15" color LCD.

What the Haas SL-40L is used for
Haas's 2003 launch release meant the SL-40L Long-Bed for long work such as oil field components, drive shafts and machinery rollers, along with long shafts and tubing that need deep-hole drilling and boring; a Big Bore version opens the through-bore to 6.75 in for large tubing.
