What the maker publishes about the current Haas EC-500

Haas builds the EC-500 as a 40-taper horizontal machining center with two pallets and a pallet changer as part of the base machine. It works in 4 axes, the fourth being a full rotary axis with synchronous motion. Travels are 32.00 in on X, 25.00 in on Y and 28.00 in on Z. Each pallet measures 500 mm by 500 mm and is rated for 880 lb, and swapping pallets takes 15 s. Parts may reach 29.5 in in diameter and 36.5 in in height. The inline direct-drive spindle turns to 8100 rpm, makes 30.0 hp and peaks at 90.0 ft-lbf at 2000 rpm, in CT40, BT40 or HSK-A63 taper. As standard the side-mount tool changer holds 30+1 tools; 50+1, 100+1 and 160+1 changers are options, as is a 6-station pallet pool. Rapids reach 1400 ipm on each linear axis. Chips leave through a rear-exit conveyor, and the coolant tank holds 95 gal.

What the Haas EC-500 is used for

Haas's EC-500 page describes a 40 taper horizontal machine with a pallet changer, set up for long unattended runs on larger parts and tombstones, and says a 6-station pallet pool and a larger tool changer can be fitted to the current build.
