What the maker published about the Haas EC-300

The EC-300, a horizontal machining center taking 40-taper tools, appears on an archived Haas specification sheet with a 300 mm twin-pallet system and a full 4th axis. Travels are 20 x 18 x 14 in, or 508, 457 and 356 mm. Each pallet is 11.8 in square and carries up to 550 lb (249 kg), and the changer swaps them in 4.7 sec. As standard, an inline direct-drive spindle gives 8000 rpm, rated 20 hp (14.9 kW) and turning out 75 ft-lb at 1400 rpm; an optional spindle lifts that to 12000 rpm and 30 hp, with 90 ft-lb at 2000 rpm. The rotary axis turns 90° in 5.6 sec and holds 210 ft-lb of continuous torque. Rapids reach 1000 in/min, cutting feed 500 in/min, and tools are kept in a side-mount magazine of 24+1 pockets. A belt chip conveyor is built in, coolant capacity is 55 gal, and the whole unit comes to 16000 lb.

What the Haas EC-300 is used for

Haas's 2003 launch release aims the EC-300 at parts machined on several faces and at tombstone fixtures, set by an incremental indexer, and keeps the spindle cutting while the operator loads one 300 mm pallet as the machine mills on the other.
