What the maker publishes about the current Grob G300

GROB lists the G300 as the smallest size in its G-module series of machining centers, a horizontal motorized spindle machine laid out for series production of automotive parts. Working travel is 600 mm in X, 770 mm in Y and 810 mm in Z, with axis speeds of 95, 45 and 100 m/min. Parts up to an interference diameter of 720 mm fit the work area. A chip-to-chip change takes 2.3 s under VDI 2852, and each linear axis positions to 0.006 mm. The table carries 400 kg without a pallet and 340 kg with one. Tilting rotary tables in several versions, a disk-type tool magazine and a scraper conveyor for chips make up the layout. Among the spindle versions listed for the G300 are an HSK-A63 unit at 12,000 rpm and 47 Nm and an HSK-A100 unit with 340 Nm at 6,000 rpm. SIEMENS control is standard and FANUC is an option. Weight is 15,000 kg, or 17,500 kg with a pallet changer.

What to check on a Grob G300

  • Control generation. The manufacturer specifies SIEMENS (standard) for this model.
  • Axes and way covers. The manufacturer gives X 600 mm, Y 770 mm and Z 810 mm of travel. Run each axis end to end and check the way covers.
  • Rapids and ballscrews. The manufacturer gives a rapid traverse of 95/45/100 m/min. Measure the backlash on each axis.
  • Tool-change time. The manufacturer gives a chip-to-chip time of 2.3 s (according to VDI 2852). Time a tool change against that.
  • Table. The manufacturer gives a table load of 400/340 kg (without/with pallet). Check the table and its T-slots for damage.
  • Rigging and floor. The manufacturer gives a machine weight of 15,000/17,500 kg (without/with pallet changer). Confirm the rigging route and the floor will take that.

Grob G300 control and documentation
