Mori Seiki described the ZL-150SMC as a dual-process turning center for synchronous machining, built with two turrets and a second headstock. That headstock travels 555 mm on its B axis, and work handed across to it may be at most 135 mm in diameter. Turret 1 reaches a 440 mm turning diameter and turret 2 a 322 mm one; the standard figure is 170 mm, and parts can be 471 mm long. Strokes differ by turret: X is 235 mm (220 mm plus 15 mm) on turret 1 and 175 mm (161 mm plus 14 mm) on turret 2, while Z is 545 mm and 490 mm. Both turrets have 12 stations, and every station on each takes a rotary tool. Driven tools run to 3,000 min-1 on each turret, with 4,000 min-1 an option on turret 1 only. Spindle speed spans 50 to 5,000 min-1, a range the chosen chuck, fixture or tool can limit.
