What the maker publishes about the current Brother TC-32BN QT
In the TC-32BN QT, Brother combines a moving column and a #30 spindle with a QT table: two workpiece faces on a turntable that indexes 180 degrees in 3.4 seconds and repeats its position within 0.01 mm at the table center. A face gives a 600 x 425 mm work area and accepts 200 kg, and the work may turn within a 1,200 mm diameter. The X stroke is 550 mm, Y gives 400 mm and Z 415 mm, with 70 m/min rapids throughout. The standard spindle turns 12,000 min-1, and a 16,000 min-1 spindle comes as an option. A double arm changer serves a magazine of 26 tools plus one or 40 plus one; with BT tooling, tool to tool takes 0.9 seconds and chip to chip 2.0 seconds; a single tool can be 200 mm long and weigh 3.5 kg. Through spindle coolant is an option. Under CNC-B00 control, the QT weighs 4,600 kg, stands 2,360 mm tall and occupies 1,890 x 3,669 mm of floor.

What fits a Brother TC-32BN QT
Each of these follows from a published specification above, which is named beside it.
What to check on a Brother TC-32BN QT
- Control generation. The manufacturer specifies CNC-B00 for this model. Units we have tracked run 2007 to 2016; an early one may carry an older control or a retrofit.
- Spindle. The manufacturer gives a spindle speed of 12,000 min-1 (16,000 min-1 optional). Run the spindle to top speed and listen for bearing noise.
- Spindle load. The manufacturer gives 11 / 6 kW (12,000 min-1 spindle; the 16,000 min-1 spindle is 10 / 7.3 kW) of spindle power. Take a heavy cut and watch the load meter.
- Spindle taper. The manufacturer gives a spindle taper of 7/24 tapered #30. Check it for fretting and that the drawbar holds a tool.
- Axes and way covers. The manufacturer gives X 550 mm, Y 400 mm and Z 415 mm of travel. Run each axis end to end and check the way covers.
- Rapids and ballscrews. The manufacturer gives a rapid traverse of 70 x 70 x 70 m/min. Measure the backlash on each axis.
- Tool changer. The manufacturer gives the tool capacity as 26(+1) / 40(+1). Cycle every pocket and watch for a hesitation.
- Table. The manufacturer gives a table size of 600 x 425 mm (per face) and a table load of 200 kg (per face). Check the table and its T-slots for damage.
- Rigging and floor. The manufacturer gives a machine weight of 4,600 kg and a floor space of 1,890 x 3,669 mm. Confirm the rigging route and the floor will take that.
