Blanchard's 22AD-42 is a rotary surface grinder: a vertical spindle carries either a wheel or segments above a magnetic chuck that turns beneath it. On this model the wheel measures 22 inches and the chuck 42 inches, and work may swing as wide as 48 inches. Up to 3,000 lbs can rest on the chuck. The standard grinding drive is rated at 50 HP, and the wheel turns at 720 RPM, while chuck rotation varies without steps from 6 to 24 RPM. Vertical range under the head is 24 inches, and Bourn & Koch lists 36 inches as an option. On units Bourn & Koch builds now, the carriage (X) and the spindle head (Z) are servo axes running on linear rails, controlled by a FANUC 35iB with a conversational teach mode and a power operated wheel dresser.

Bourn & Koch's page sets the 22AD-42 to grinding flat faces on small and medium sized parts up to 48 inches across, and names cast iron, steel, ceramic and silicone among the materials it takes stock off.
