What the maker publishes about the current Haas DM-1

Haas Automation places the DM-1 in its Drill/Tap/Mill Series as a compact three-axis machining center. The maker describes it as matching the DT-1 in construction and specifications, except that it carries an 18+1 changer and a 40-taper inline Haas spindle. That spindle takes CT or BT 40 tooling, is direct driven and air cooled, and peaks at 10000 rpm with a 15.0 hp rating; its torque maximum is 46.0 ft-lbf at 1700 rpm, and rigid tapping, standard here, is rated at 5000 rpm. Axis strokes are 20.00 in (X), 16.00 in (Y) and 15.50 in (Z), while the spindle nose sits between 6.0 in and 21.5 in above the table. A 26.0 in by 15.0 in table with 3 T-slots accepts 250 lb at full rapids or 500 lb at half rapid speed. Rapids reach 2400 ipm on each axis, with cutting feeds of 1200 ipm. The side-mount changer accepts tools 2.5 in in diameter, 7.00 in long and 12.0 lb, swapping in 1.75 s on average.

What the Haas DM-1 is used for

Haas built the DM-1 as the 40-taper version of its compact DT-1, with the same frame and figures but an inline 40-taper spindle and an 18+1 tool changer, so a shop already holding 40-taper tooling can use it on a small machine that takes up little floor space.

When the Haas DM-1 was built

Haas had introduced the DM-1 by mid-2015: the Internet Archive's copy of its spec page from June 12, 2015 lists it as a 40-taper drill/mill center with 20 by 16 by 15.5 in of travel.
