Chevalier puts the EM2040L in its EM Series, a group of fast vertical machining centers meant to shorten cycle times on large-quantity work, and lists it next to the EM2033L. All three axes ride on high-speed linear ways. Beside the EM2033L, this model has the longer X stroke, 1,020 mm, over a 1,200 by 510 mm table rated for 600 kg, while Y gives 530 mm and Z 510 mm. Rapids reach 36/36/24 m/min. Belt and direct versions of the #40 BIG PLUS spindle both turn 10,000 rpm as standard; the belt version can be ordered at 8,000 or 12,000 rpm and the direct version at 12,000 rpm. The arm-type changer stores 24+1 tools with a tool-to-tool time of 3 seconds, and its tool limits are 300 mm of length and 7 kg of weight. Floor space is 2,720 by 3,020 mm, height 2,600 mm, and mass 6,200 kg.

Chevalier counts its EM Series among HSM machines, run at higher spindle speeds and feed rates than a regular vertical machining center so that parts come off sooner, and points them at short lead times and large batches; it names three models in the series, the EM1620L, EM2033L and EM2040L.
