Toyoda derived the FH550SX from the FH550S horizontal machining center by adding a spindle with more torque and two drives on its Y axis. Power for the standard 6,000 rpm spindle comes from a 30 kW interim motor that holds 22 kW continuously, with 25 kW continuous as an option, and an alternative optional spindle ran 50 to 15,000 rpm. Spindle diameter at the front bearing is 110 mm, with a #50 taper. Axis strokes are 750 mm (X, column), 800 mm (Y, spindle head) and 850 mm (Z, table). Pallets measure 550 x 550 mm and carry no more than 800 kg. Tool limits are 27 kg in weight and 120 x 545 mm in size; the magazine holds 60 as standard, and optional magazines hold 121 or 134 to 326. In rapid, all three linear axes move at 60 m/min, accelerating at 0.7 G. Toyoda specified a GE Fanuc 31i CNC. Height comes to 3,200 mm.
