With the VCU-400A-5X, Mazak set a rotary and tilting table on a small-footprint vertical machining center, a five axis layout. The C axis indexes through a full 360 degrees, the B axis covers 140 degrees of tilt, and the table's drive uses roller gear cams, a design without backlash. A workpiece may span 400 mm in diameter, with 305 mm the height limit. Tooling goes into a 40 taper spindle that reaches 10000 rpm, its motor giving 15.0 hp / 11 kw across a 30 minute rating. The specification table counts 30 tools in the magazine; a 20 tool version is also named, and both feed an automatic tool changer. The guideways are of Mazak's MX Hybrid Roller Guide type, and the machine accepts articulated robots for loading and unloading parts.
