Mazak built the VC-300A/5X as a compact vertical machining center for five axis cutting, holding the part on a table that tilts as well as turns. A roller gear cam drive takes the backlash out of that table, and C axis indexing spans 360.0000 degrees. The working zone is small: a part can be up to 160 mm in diameter and 155 mm high, X and Y each stroke 300 mm, and Z has 475 mm. Spindle speed climbs to 12000 rpm through a 40 taper nose, with 25.0 hp / 19 kw rated for 5 minutes, and spindles with a different maximum speed were also listed. Its automatic tool changer draws from a magazine of 30 tools. MX Hybrid roller guideways carry the linear axes, and a jointed arm robot can be fitted to move parts in and out.
