Mazak's MULTIPLEX 6300-II Y puts two matched turning spindles and two turrets in one CNC turning center, and its rotary tools and 6.06 in Y axis let it mill as well as turn. Both headstocks are alike: 10 in chucks, a 4000 rpm ceiling and 30.0 hp / 22 kw rated for 30 minutes. Bar stock of 3.0 in is the limit, and a part may be 16.930 in across and 8.860 in long, with swing at 16.93 in. X and X2 travel 12.20 in apiece, Z and Z2 23.82 in apiece. Each turret holds 12 tools, and the upper one drives rotary tools to 4000 rpm on 10.0 hp / 8 kw for 10 minutes. Workpieces transfer between the spindles automatically. The two spindles can cut two parts at once, turn in sync to hold a long shaft by both ends, or finish front and back faces, milling included, in a single setup. A Tool Eye system logs tool positions to the Matrix 2 control.
