Makino lists the a71nx among its four-axis horizontal machining centers, a 50-taper production machine for 500 x 500 mm pallets. Travel runs 800 mm in X, 750 mm in Y and 830 mm in Z, and roller-type linear guides carry the axes. For the B axis, a direct drive NC rotary table is standard; it turns 360° and indexes 90° in 1 second. Inertia Active Control reads B-axis motor load to judge fixture weight, then tunes acceleration on B and Z. Through a CAT50 taper, with HSK-A100 as an option, the 10,000 rpm spindle delivers 37kW (49.6HP) and 512 Nm at its duty rating. Rapids reach 50,000 mm/min in X and Y and 60,000 mm/min in Z. Workpieces may reach ø900 mm x 1,000 mm and 1,000 kg. Sixty tools load into the base magazine; 136, 187 and 299 sizes are also listed. Tools may be 300 mm across and 20 kg, or 30 kg with limitations. Tool to tool time is 1.7 sec for tools up to 20 kg.
