Square pallets of 400 mm, or 15.8 x 15.8 in, each rated for 1,102 lbs (500 kg), carry the work on Hyundai WIA's HS4000i horizontal machining center. Its bed is cast as a single T shaped piece, and the column has double walls to resist distortion from heat. Roller type linear guides run on every axis. Strokes are 24.4 in on X, 22.1 in on Y and 25.6 in on Z, with rapids of 1,969 ipm across all three. Two built in spindle versions share the BBT#40 taper: one turns 8,000 rpm on 15/11 kW, the other 12,000 rpm on 25/22 kW. Angular ball bearings support the spindle, and a cooling system holds its oil at a constant temperature to limit heat growth. Eighty tools fill the standard magazine. Pallets swap on a rotary shuttle changer, and the pallet waiting at the load station can be rotated there for loading and unloading.
