The VF-8/40 is one of the large-frame machines in the Haas VF Series: a vertical mill with three axes and a 40-taper spindle. It moves 64.00 in along X, 40.00 in along Y and 30.00 in along Z, leaving 4.0 in to 34.0 in from spindle nose to table. The 64.0 in by 36.0 in table has seven T-slots and a 4000 lb limit for an evenly spread load. An inline direct drive takes the spindle to 8100 rpm with 30.0 hp; torque peaks at 90.0 ft-lbf, reached at 2000 rpm, or at 250 ft-lbf, reached at 450 rpm, when the gearbox option is fitted. Tooling can be CT40, BT40 or HSK-A63. Standard tool storage is a 30+1 side-mount changer for tools as heavy as 12.0 lb and as long as 16.00 in, and a tool change averages 2.80 s, or 3.60 s chip to chip. Rapids reach 600 ipm on each axis and cutting feed 500 ipm. Haas fits a chip auger, a programmable coolant nozzle and a 95 gal tank as standard.
