What the maker publishes about the current Haas VF-7/50

Haas builds the VF-7/50 as a vertical mill in its VF Series, with three axes and a 50-taper spindle turned through a 2-speed gearbox. The axes cover 84.00 in (X), 32.00 in (Y) and 30.00 in (Z), and the table sits 5.0 in to 35.0 in below the spindle nose. On the 84.0 in by 28.0 in table there are five T-slots and an evenly spread load limit of 4000 lb. Top spindle speed is 7500 rpm from 30.0 hp, with torque peaking at 340.0 ft-lbf, reached at 700 rpm; the taper is CT or BT 50. Standard tool storage is 30+1 pockets in a side-mount changer. It takes tools as heavy as 30.0 lb and as long as 16.00 in; the diameter limit is 4.0 in when every pocket is filled and 10.0 in when the pockets beside it stay empty. A tool change averages 4.20 s, or 6.30 s chip to chip. Each axis rapids at 600 ipm, feed during cutting stops at 500 ipm, and coolant capacity is 95 gal.

What the Haas VF-7/50 is used for

Haas lists the VF-7/50 among its large-frame VF verticals, an 84 by 32 by 30 in mill with 20 in more X than the VF-6/50, and gives it the geared 50-taper spindle it names for hard metals and big cutters; the VF-9/50 adds 8 in of Y on the same X, and a VF-7/40 takes the smaller taper.
