What the maker publishes about the current Haas ST-10
On the Haas ST-10, both linear axes rapid at 1200 ipm. The machine is a two-axis turning center in the ST Series, and Haas calls its footprint extra-small. A 6.5 in chuck mounts on an A2-5 spindle nose. The spindle turns to 6000 rpm at 15.0 hp, with maximum torque of 75.0 ft-lbf at 1300 rpm. Bar up to 1.75 in feeds through a 2.31 in bore. Parts swing 16.5 in at most. Cutting diameter depends on the turret: 12.00 in with BOT, 11.00 in with BMT45 and 6.80 in with VDI. Cutting length is 16.0 in, though workholding changes it. Travels are 16.00 in on Z and 7.88 in on X. The standard turret is a 12-station BOT unit. It carries 30 gal of coolant.

What to check on a Haas ST-10
- Spindle. The manufacturer gives a spindle speed of 6000 rpm. Run the spindle to top speed and listen for bearing noise.
- Spindle load. The manufacturer gives 11.2 kW (15.0 hp) of spindle power and 102.0 Nm @ 1300 rpm (75.0 ft-lbf @ 1300 rpm) of spindle torque. Take a heavy cut and watch the load meter.
- Spindle nose. The manufacturer gives a spindle nose of A2-5. Check that the chuck fitted to it runs true.
- Axes and way covers. The manufacturer gives X 200 mm (7.88 in) and Z 406 mm (16.00 in) of travel. Run each axis end to end and check the way covers.
- Rapids and ballscrews. The manufacturer gives a rapid traverse of 30.5 m/min (1200 ipm). Measure the backlash on each axis.
- Turret. The manufacturer gives the turret stations as 12-Station BOT. Index every station and time a full turn.
- Chuck and bar. The manufacturer gives a chuck size of 165 mm (6.5 in) and a bar capacity of 44 mm (1.75 in). Check the jaws and the grip pressure; check any bar feeder is set for that bar.
- Bed and ways. The manufacturer gives a max turning diameter of 305 mm (12.00 in) (with BOT turret) or 279 mm (11.00 in) (with BMT45 turret) or 173 mm (6.80 in) (with VDI turret) and a max turning length of 406 mm (16.0 in) (varies with workholding). Check the ways for wear near the chuck.
