Among the larger-envelope VF Series machines from Haas, the VF-3 is a 40-taper vertical machining center working in three axes, with extra X and Z travel. X covers 40.00 in, Y covers 20.00 in, and Z covers 25.00 in. The spindle nose can come as close as 4.2 in to the table or rise to 29.2 in above it. Five T-slots cross the 48.0 in by 18.0 in table, which is rated for 3500 lb when the load is spread evenly. Spindle speed peaks at 8100 rpm, the drive is inline direct, and the rating is 30.0 hp. At 2000 rpm the standard spindle makes 90.0 ft-lbf, and the gearbox option gives 450 rpm torque of 250 ft-lbf. Listed tapers are HSK-A63, BT40 and CT40. Its carousel changer has 20 pockets for tools as heavy as 12.0 lb, and a tool swap averages 4.20 s. All axes traverse at 1000 ipm in rapid. Cutting feed is limited to 650 ipm.
