DMG MORI's NHX 5000, now in its 4th Generation, is a horizontal machining center that travels 28.7 in. on both X and Y and 34.6 in. on Z. It takes parts as large as 31.5 in. in diameter and 39.4 in. high, at up to 1102.3 lbs. Spindle duty falls to the speedMASTER, which comes standard at 20,000 rpm in a 400 V version. The axes feed at up to 70,000 mm/min and accelerate at up to 1.2 g. A Servo Sense for Workpiece function on the Z and B axes adjusts table acceleration and deceleration. Control is either SIEMENS or MAPPS Fanuc. The base structure uses a thick bed on 3 point supports, with stepped guideways for X. A chip conveyor clears swarf from the cutting zone. Options for the NHX Series machine include a tool visualizer that measures tools automatically, along with interfaces for hydraulic and pneumatic automation.
