Haas describes the current ST-40 as an all-new design of its large-frame ST Series lathe. Spindle drive runs through a 2-speed gearbox, reaching 2400 rpm at 40.0 hp and 1400.0 ft-lbf at 150 rpm. The XP option lifts those figures to 55.0 hp and 2100.0 ft-lbf. The spindle nose is A2-8, the bore 4.62 in, and bar capacity 4.00 in. A 15.0 in chuck clamps through a hydraulic chucking system. Part swing reaches 35.5 in. Cutting diameter peaks at 30.00 in on the BOT turret and 27.50 in on a BMT75 turret. Axis travel is 20.00 in on X and 44.00 in on Z, both at rapids of 710 ipm, and cutting length reaches 44.0 in. Tools sit in a 12-station bolt-on turret. The tailstock, MT5 in taper, travels 42.0 in. A rear spindle nose is an option. Coolant fills a 95 gal tank.
