Makino describes the a61nx-5E as a five-axis horizontal machining center for aluminum parts of small to mid size, aerospace work in particular. It sits on a 400 mm by 400 mm pallet with strokes of 730 mm in X, 730 mm in Y and 680 mm in Z. Two direct drive rotary axes supply the extra motion: B swivels 290 degrees, from -110 to +180, and C turns a full 360. The pallet changer loads the pallet directly into the rotary table. A 14,000 rpm spindle is standard and a 24,000 rpm spindle is optional. Rapid traverse is 48 m/min in X and Y and 43 m/min in Z. The largest workpiece is ø700 mm by 400 mm, with limitations, and payload tops out at 150 kg. The magazine holds 60 tools, with 133, 218 or 313 optional. Tools can be 170 mm across and 12 kg.
